China has released a second large batch of previously classified military-technology patents as part of its continuing efforts to stimulate private-sector involvement in defence development and manufacturing activities.
China’s Equipment Development Department (EDD), an agency under the State Council’s Central Military Commission, announced in late April a move to declassify more than 4,000 military patents, which it will make publicly available through its procurement website, http://www.weain.mil.cn.
The patents were authorised and issued to state-run defence enterprises in China by the EDD’s National Defence Intellectual Property Office. The EDD describes the patents as “invention patents that involve the interests of defence and have a potential role in building national defence”.
