BAE Systems has been awarded a USD4.2 million Phase 1 contract from the US Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) to develop software that will enable military planners to investigate the causes of a conflict and assess potential approaches.
The US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is sponsoring the Causal Exploration of Complex Operational Environments (Causal Exploration) programme, which seeks to develop technology that can model different political, territorial, and economic tensions that often lead to conflicts, helping planners to avoid unexpected outcomes, according to a BAE Systems statement.
“The technologies embodied in the Causal Exploration platform will enable users to rapidly create, maintain, and interact with a causal model that has been tailored for the operational environment they are facing,” DARPA stated.
