Forget the S-500 or Su-57 PAK-FA. Russia's Military Has Big Plans for the Future.

Russia has started planning for the development of a series of next-generation weapons to follow-on to systems such as the Sukhoi Su-57 PAK-FA and the S-500 surface-to-air missile (SAM) battery. These new systems—which the Russian government has not named—will be developed under future advanced State Armament Program.

“An important and key issue on our agenda is to define the beginning of the creation of yet another advanced state armament program,” Russian President Vladimir Putin said during a meeting of the Kremlin’s Military Industrial Commission . Putin said that Russia has to start planning for its future defense needs now as it completes developmental programs that were funded under the current State Armament Plan (GPV-2027). “It is important for us to move further and start planning today the future development and production of advanced weapons and equipment that will define the image of the Russian Armed Forces in the long-term, for the next few decades,” Putin said. Russia to upgrade heavy sniper rifle

Image
Russia’s 12.7mm heavy sniper rifle OSV-96 will be upgraded to get a new cartridge and become a precision gun, a representative of the Shipunov Instrument-Making Design Bureau (the rifle’s developer) told TASS on Wednesday. Today the rifle is less accurate than other guns developed by the Shipunov Instrument-Making Design Bureau, for example, the MTs-116M sniper rifle, he said. "Work is underway to upgrade the OSV-96 to increase the accuracy of fire and the density of hits. Now we are at the stage of R&D work, which will be followed by experimental and design work and a cycle of trials. We expect the rifle’s upgrade to be completed in 2020," the design bureau’s representative said. A new sniper cartridge is planned to be developed as part of the OSV-96 rifle’s modernization, he added. The OSV-96 is a Russian large-caliber sniper rifle designed to destroy enemy manpower and military hardware at large distances. The rifle is chambered for the powerful 12.7x107mm cartridge …

Türkiye-Birleşik Krallık stratejik işbirliği ne getirecek?

Image

The Evolution Of Military Camouflage

Image
The First World War: A 'hidden' combat In the run-up to the Great War, a new threat was on the horizon - enemy aerial reconnaissance. From this, militaries first used camouflage patterning and tactics to hide locations and equipment - not people. Modern camouflage as we recognise only began in 1915 when, after being defeated by the Germans, the French army abandoned their white gloves and red pantaloons. They enlisted a cadre of artists to develop stealthier uniform and formed the first units of 'camoufleurs' – specialists in camouflage. Initial tactics were confined to painting vehicles and weaponry in disruptive patterns to blend into the surrounding landscape. They later taught other militaries how to disguise their equipment with paint, how to erase truck tracks and cannon blast marks, as well as using netting interwoven with fake leaves to hide sheds holding military equipment.  The Second World War and aerial attacks A fresh threat of aerial attacks prompted milit…

F-35 uçakları pazarlık masasında, teslim sorunu bitmiş değil!

Image
Amerika’nın proje geliştirme aşamasında Boeing ve LockheedMartin’in yarıştırdığı beşinci nesil F-35A müşterek saldırı uçağı (Joint Strike Fighter) ihalesini Lockheed’in kazanmasıyla çeşitli ülkelerle görüşmeler yapılmaya başlandı.

Army Tests Mechanical 'Third Arm' to Ease Weapon Weight

Image
Army Sgt. Michael Zamora uses a prototype Third Arm exoskeleton to easily aim an 18-pound M249 light machine gun during testing at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, on March 14, 2018.Photo by: U.S. Army photo by Conrad Johnson Army Research Lab engineers released a video recently showing a soldier running, diving and handling weapons attached to a prototype mechanical arm designed to help reduce the felt weight of carbines and machine guns. The "third arm" is essentially a multi-joint, stabilizing appendage that attaches to the weapon and the soldier's waist belt to take the weight off the service member's arms and distribute it more evenly on the body, Dan Baechle, ARL mechanical engineer, said in a recent Army press release. "It can help stabilize the weapon and take the load off of their arms," Baechle said. "It's made from composite materials to make it as light as possible but also to ensure the range of motion that soldiers need," he sai…

World Leading User of Nano-UAVs

Image
UAVs are a game-changer for the Australian Army, providing enhanced situational awareness for better mission execution for soldiers. Soon the Black Hornet Nano-UAVs will be rolled out to Australian Army soldiers in Brisbane following the completion of the Black Hornet Nano UAV Program, an A$18 million project.
The Australian military sees this as a key capability milestone and a significant achievement and an example of adopting tactical robotic technology.
For well over a decade, the Australian Army has been the largest and most experienced operator of UAV in the country, according to uavvision.com. “The Australian Army is now the biggest user of Nano-UAV in the world. It is also the first in the world to proliferate this technology to the conventional forces down to combat platoon level,” said Commander 6th Brigade and the Army’s only UAS unit, the 20th Surveillance Target Acquisition Regiment, Brigadier Susan Coyle. “Experience of UAV operations overseas and in Australia have provide…

Israeli To Pump $2B Into Ground-Ground Missile Unit

Image
IMI EXTRA TEL AVIV: The recent massive Israeli attack on Iranian targets in Syria may mark a major shift in the way Israel uses its fire power. On May 9 Israel attacked Iranian targets in Syria in response to the launching of 20 rockets from Syria by Iranian-controlled forces. Four of the rockets were intercepted by Israel’s Iron Dome air defense system; the rest exploded on Syrian territory. There were no Israeli casualties. Reports from Israel said more than 20 Israeli fighter aircraft prosecuted the attack, doubtless helped by Israel’s impressive electronic warfare capabilities. But reports from Syria claimed that surface-to-surface missiles were also used to hit the Iranian installations in Syria. Those reports may be signs of a important change in how Israel executes counter-battery strikes. While we can’t confirm that Israel used ground-to-ground missiles against Syria, a few months ago the IDF established a new unit — on the orders of Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman …

Pratt & Whitney receives $2 billion to supply F-35 engines

Image
The Department of Defense awarded Pratt & Whitney a $2 billion contract to supply F135 turbofan engines for the Lot 11 order of F-35 Lightning II aircraft. The 11th low rate initial production contract will cover 135 engines, as well as programme management, engineering support, production support, spare modules and spare parts, P&W said on 31 May 2018. The company said it has delivered 375 F135 engines to date and deliveries of Lot 11 engines will start this year. The $2 billion contract for F135 turbofan engines comes in addition to two long lead components, parts and materials contracts that P&W was awarded in August and November 2016. Those contracts totaled $185 million. Including the long lead contracts, the average cost per engine for Lot 11 comes to roughly $16.2 million per unit. Engine unit prices vary as the conventional takeoff and landing Lockheed Martin F-35A engine is priced lower than the engine system for the vertical takeoff and landing variant F-35B, ho…

US Defense chief: China military buildup in disputed waters ‘coercion, intimidation’

Image
China’s military buildup in the South China Sea and its deployment of high-end weapons systems in the disputed waterway is designed to intimidate and coerce neighbors, US Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said on Saturday. Speaking at a high-profile security summit in Singapore, the Pentagon chief also said the US military would continue to support diplomats pushing for the “complete, verifiable and irreversible” denuclearization of the Korean peninsula. Mattis said Beijing had deployed a range of military hardware — including anti-ship missiles, surface-to-air missiles and electronic jammers — across the South China Sea, where it has built islets and other maritime features into hardened military facilities. Beijing has also landed heavy bombers on Woody Island in the Paracel Islands.
“Despite China’s claims to the contrary, the placement of these weapon systems is tied directly to military use for the purposes of intimidation and coercion,” Mattis told the Shangri-La Dialogue. AFP
