Russia is arming an outpost about 80 miles from the North Korean border with an upgraded surface-to-air missile defense system amid ongoing tensions over Pyongyang’s nuclear missile buildup, Russia-backed news agency RT reported.
The air defense site in Vladivostok was previously armed with three older systems, but has now received the modern S-400 Triumf missiles and trained crew, RT reported.
RT posted a video of the new missiles.
The S-400 has a range of just over 370 miles, compared to the approximate 248-mile range of an older surface-to-air missile, and, according to RT, has better target tracking and simultaneous engagement capabilities.
The regiment in the eastern Russian city is part of Russia’s air defense command in that region. Another air defense regiment is stationed in the city of Nakhodka about 50 miles to the east also has S-400 missiles and crew, RT reported.
