New Base to US Navy


The US Navy's Naval Base USNS Hershel "Woody" Williams (ESB 4) started sea trials.

The construction work began in 2015, platform was laid down in 2016 and launched in August 2017. The christening ceremony of the ship was held on September 21st.
The 239 meter long platform is designed flexible enough to be used in mine countermeasure, anti-piracy operations, maritime safety and humanitarian operations.
The platform, which had previously delivered three sister ships, has large spare parts storage and fuel tanks. The ship will be able to accommodate 250 people when needed. The 4830-square-foot flight deck allows the MH-53 and MH-60 helicopters to be operated. The construction work of the fifth ship of is ongoing.
