For the third time in the last 72 hours, Russia’s Hmeymim Airbase has come under attack by a number of armed drones.
According to a local source in Jableh, a number of armed drones attempted to bomb the Hmeymim Airbase’s northeastern perimeter, prompting the Russian military to activate their air defense sirens.
The Russian military then fired their air defense missiles at the drones to eliminate the threat and reestablish security over the northeastern perimeter of this strategic installation.
The source told Al-Masdar this evening that the armed drone attack was repelled by the Russian military before any of the bombs could hit the airbase.
Following this attack, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) retaliated against the jihadist rebels by firing several surface-to-surface missiles at their positions in the northeastern countryside of the Latakia Governorate.
According to a military source in the northern countryside of Latakia, the Russian Aerospace Forces are now preparing to launch their largest attack against the jihadist rebels in the Jisr Al-Shughour District of southwest Idlib.
While the drone attacks have been more prevalent this week, the jihadist rebels have launched similar strikes in the past, with the first recorded UAV assault occurring in late December of 2017.
