U.S. aerospace giant Raytheon and German weapons maker Rheinmetall is offering its next-generation combat vehicle, called the Lynx, for the U.S. Army.
Raytheon announced on its Twitter account that: “A more lethal maneuver force for U.S. Army will require power, agility, increased protection and room for growth to defeat evolving threats. The Lynx Infantry Fighting vehicle, with its modern digital backbone, is up for the challenge.”
Raytheon and Rheinmetall are joining forces for the next-generation combat vehicle.
The company’s website said that combining the best of American and German engineering, Raytheon and Rheinmetall have joined forces to meet the U.S. Army’s requirement for a Next-Generation Combat Vehicle/Optionally Manned Fighting Vehicle.
Equipped with Raytheon weapons, sensors and system integration expertise, the Lynx Infantry Fighting Vehicle provides an advanced, modular and combat-ready solution — and gives soldiers a decisive advantage for decades to come.
“Ready-now with modular design and leap-ahead capabilities, Lynx will deliver overmatch for the new battlespace,” also added.
Raytheon and Rheinmetall statted that Lynx is a 21st-century solution, providing modularity and maximum available growth capacity for the future.
The Lynx family has been designed as a highly protected tracked armoured vehicle, the new combat vehicle delivers up to the highest STANAG ballistic and mine protection to survive against modern conventional and asymmetric threats.
From its protective hull to its counter-IED system to its LANCE 2.0 turret and 35mm automatic cannon, the Lynx vehicle’s ready-now, modular platform is equipped with full range of advanced systems. Also stressed that new vehicle will have next-generation turret up to 50mm cannon, hunterkiller, killer-killer, remotely controlled weapon station, dual multi-mission pods, fully integrated situational awareness sensor suite.
