Almaz-Antey unveils new chassis for Tor-M2E SAM system

Russia’s Almaz-Antey unveiled an 8x8 multipurpose chassis for the Tor-family (SA-15 ‘Gauntlet’) short-range surface-to-air missile (SAM) system at the Army 2019 defence show held in Kubinka near Moscow in late June.

The demonstrator of the chassis was produced by the Bryansk Automotive Plant (BAZ), which is an Almaz-Antey subsidiary. The vehicle on display carried an eight-cell launching unit of the 9K331M Tor-M2E SAM system that is typically mounted on a Belarusian-made wheeled tractor.

The BAZ all-terrain 8x8 chassis prototype is designated the Special Hull Wheeled Chassis (Spetsialnoye Korpusnoye Kolyosnoye Shassi: SKKS). The platform is 11 m long, 3.15 m wide, and 2.5 m high, and has a ground clearance of 400 mm. The vehicle is powered by a 530hp diesel engine, producing a top speed of 80 km/h. Neither BAZ nor Almaz-Antey disclosed the payload capacity of the SKKS.
